William Poage was born about 1756 in VA.
From William T. Price's Historical Sketches of Pocahontas Co, WV (reprinted by McClain Publishing, Parsons, WV, 1963; originally published by Price Brothers, Marlinton, WV, 1901):
"William Poage Sr. was a Presbyterian ruling elder, and virtually the founder of the Oak Grove church. Some of the first meetings conducted by Presbyterian ministers in this region were at his house. When the pulpit would be vacant for years at a time there would be religious meetings at his home or the homes of his sons, who were also elders."
He married Margaret Davies. She was born about 1747 and died about 1843. She was the daughter of the Reverend Samuel Davies and Jean Holt. View the Davies line here.
Their children were:
George Washington Poage (born about 1783 in VA)
William Poage (married widow Nancy Gatewood, daughter of Jacob Warwick)
Moses Hoge Poage (married Martha McDannald; removed to MO)
Samuel Davies Poage (married Rebecca Arbuckle)
Elizabeth Poage (married Colonel John Hill)
